Making the BIG move less of a BIG pain!

After thirty years in our big, barny, beautiful home it was time to ditch the stairs and move to a more manageable one level living space.  Between the house selling and needing to vacate, we had a very short fuse and of course had not done the necessary shedding to prepare.  

Enter Shannon who had helped a couple of friends in the same predicament.  She was a lifesaver for us.  She helped us relocate our non-essential furniture ReStore, my clothing that was nice but not used to Dress for Success, etc.  She hauled away Suburban load after Suburban load and had her handsome sons pitch in when we needed strong backs and can-do attitudes.  Shannon worked with me to get closets sorted and things packed.  There were many times when I was ready to burst into tears and fall apart and Shannon would calmly say, “Let’s just finish this closet.”  And we would.   Did I mention she was a lifesaver? 

We put some things we couldn’t bear to part with in storage, moved what would fit to the new digs and took off to Mexico for a week to recover.  It was a race to the finish and there were many days I didn’t think we’d make it.  And we wouldn’t have made it if Shannon hadn’t been managing things for us.

Our apartment was great, but small and when a larger one became available nine months later, we were just about to leave on a 12 week sabbatical.  That could have been a big problem except my first call was to Shannon to see if she could oversee moving our belongings five floors up to a more spacious apartment.  Once again she saved our sanity and handled all the details on the day of the move. including placing our things in the rooms we requested and even making the bed so we could collapse when we returned.  

Our moves were something we should have been able to handle.  But it was so much less stressful to have Shannon jump in and make sure it went well.  I am not longing to move again, but when the time comes my first call will be to Shannon.


Shannon Duffy has been a life saver for me.  I have an older home that has recently been renovated. The problem is what to do with all the STUFF that has accumulated over the years. I did not want an estate sale due to the fact that this can be unsafe with people coming back, uninvited to look over the house again. Shannon took over in a most gracious way and helped me edit what I have, making my house a home that I now love. She has incredible organizational skills and resources to help you accomplish your goals. You will be pleasantly pleased if you ever hire her services.

Shannon was a lifesaver when it came time for me to move out of our home of 20 years. She either arrived with the moving supplies we needed, or told me exactly what to get and where to get them; saving me tons of time and research. There are save piles, toss piles, and donate piles, and she even has ideas on where to donate and comes loaded with donation forms as well! We recently sold our house before it went on the market, and so we’re faced with the task of moving out of a large house, quickly. Our buyer actually recommended Shannon Duffy. She saved the day with her skills at organizing, resources for moving, packing, donating and dispersing many items. It was complicated as our destination move was a temporary one while we looked for a different, one level, house to remodel. The items that we stored were photographed, labeled and stored by category. The items for our temporary house were moved in stages. I consider myself to be a very organized person, but when it comes to juggling tasks while spinning plates... Shannon Duffy has me beat and then some. I needed help to move both a personal residence and a home-based business from a rural address back into the city, at the same time downsizing from nearly 5,000 square feet plus out-buildings to about 2,500 square feet with no garage! Shannon to the rescue. She coordinated my move, including getting groups of items to the new house, to two different storage units, to donation options, and finally... to the dump. Shannon Duffy is amazing and very resourceful. She has helped me with moving out of my old home and moving in with my new home. She helped me pack and organize my belongings, as well as helping me decide what to get rid of and where to take it to donate and sell. When we moved into our new house she was there to help me unpack, put away and organize. I have moved many times and it can be a very stressful endeavor. But having Shannon by my side, we got all the boxes unpacked and items organized faster than I ever had in the past.

Shannon also helped me plant and decorate in my new garden. She helped me select the flowers to use, went and bought them and then planted them. She also has extensive knowledge about how to take care of many of the plants in my garden. We are a retired couple in our 80’s who made the decision to move to a retirement place after 52 years in our home.  It was 4600 sq feet and full of stuff.  I had heard about Shannon from friends and knew there was no way I could clear out closets and cupboards on my own.  Nine months before moving, Shannon came to start clearing out stuff in basement cupboards - a job I thought would take a couple of days.  Within 3 hours she had the cupboards empty , making piles for Goodwill, Community Warehouse, junk to be tossed, and unused silver to be sold.

Things I wanted to save were set aside .  She came one other time to help get rid of more stuff.  In the meantime she arranged for the movers.  The weekend before moving day she came and packed about 50 boxes.  I like to cook and our new place has a nice kitchen so that all got packed.  Along with all the clothes in drawers, closets, etc.  After arrival at our new place the  movers stacked all the boxes in the appropriate rooms she had marked on the boxes, and she immediately started setting up my kitchen.  I just watched.  My kitchen has never been so organized!  A place for everything and everything in its place. Canned goods on shelves and food in the fridge.   Then she got into the bathroom boxes and arranged towels, toilet paper, and other odds and ends.  She saw some extras we could use and off she went to Target to get more kitchen organizers like lazy Susan’s for cleaning supplies, shower curtains for extra bathroom etc.

Oh, I forgot to mention , our realtor wanted our large chandelier down - the very day I asked Shannon, how do I make this happen, two strong guys came to take it down.  My husband had a huge heavy desk and credenza in the basement we didn’t want - Shannon arranged for them to be picked up and donated. She told me who to call about selling some jewelry and antiques.  There is no way my 88 year year old husband or I could have made this move without Shannon’s  help.  She’s fun to be around and I appreciate all she did!!!!

As a general contractor, I deal with clients moving both in and out of the houses I remodel.
